DU UGCF 2022 Grading Scale

Delhi University adopted the University Grants Commission Framework (UGCF) 2022 grading system. Under this framework, DU uses a 10-point scale aligned with UGC guidelines:

Grade Grade Point Marks Range Performance Description
O 10 90–100 Outstanding
A+ 9 80–89 Excellent
A 8 70–79 Very Good
B+ 7 60–69 Good
B 6 55–59 Above Average
C 5 50–54 Average
P 4 45–49 Pass
F 0 Below 45 Fail
💡 Under UGCF 2022, DU introduced a 4-year undergraduate program (FYUP). The CGPA system applies across all semesters of the 3-year or 4-year program depending on your enrollment batch.

DU CGPA Formula

DU uses the standard UGC-recommended credit-weighted CGPA formula:

CGPA = Σ (Credit × Grade Point) ÷ Σ (Credits)

Credits at DU are typically 4 per major/core course, 2 for skill-based courses, and 1 for some workshops. The exact credit allocation for each course is specified in the course structure for your program.

Worked Example — Semester 1

Course Credits Grade Grade Point Credit × GP
Core Paper 1 4 A+ 9 36
Core Paper 2 4 A 8 32
SEC 1 2 O 10 20
GE Paper 4 B+ 7 28
AEC 2 A 8 16
Total 16 132

SGPA for Semester 1 = 132 ÷ 16 = 8.25

DU CGPA to Percentage Conversion

DU follows the UGC’s recommended conversion formula:

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5

Example: CGPA 7.8 → 7.8 × 9.5 = 74.1%

For formal applications (job applications, graduate school applications), always state both your CGPA and the percentage with the formula: “CGPA 7.8/10 (≈74.1% using UGC formula, Delhi University).”

Degree Classification at DU

CGPA Range Classification
8.0 and above First Division with Distinction
6.75–7.99 First Division
5.5–6.74 Second Division
4.5–5.49 Third Division / Pass
Below 4.5 Fail / Compartment
What is the minimum passing CGPA at DU?
Under UGCF 2022, students must pass each course individually (minimum P grade = 4 grade points) and maintain an overall CGPA above 4.5 to receive the degree without a “compartment” (supplementary examination requirement). The exact continuation requirements and academic probation thresholds are specified in your program’s examination scheme.
Does DU CGPA include internal assessment marks?
Yes — DU’s grade for each course is determined by combining internal assessment (typically 25% of the course mark) with the semester-end examination (75%). Both components are combined to determine the final marks from which the grade and grade point are derived. The CGPA formula then uses these final grade points — it does not separately track internal vs external components in the cumulative average.

DU CGPA for Higher Studies and Employment

Delhi University graduates are among the most sought-after in India, and CGPA plays a central role in opportunities post-graduation:

Use our DU CGPA to Percentage Converter for accurate percentage conversion using the UGC’s 9.5 multiplier formula, which is the standard DU follows for official percentage equivalency.

One practical note for DU students applying for jobs or higher studies: many employers and graduate programs outside India are not familiar with DU’s specific grading conventions. When submitting applications internationally, always state your CGPA with the scale and university name — ‘CGPA 7.6/10 (Delhi University, UGCF 2022)’ — and include the UGC percentage conversion formula so evaluators can contextualise the figure within the Indian university grading system. This prevents misinterpretation by admissions offices or HR teams who may have different grading systems as their reference point.

Academic planning is always more effective when grounded in accurate numbers. Whether you’re calculating what percentage your CGPA represents, checking scholarship eligibility, or preparing application materials, having the right formula and a reliable calculator removes guesswork and lets you focus on what matters most: performing well in the work ahead of you.

Students who proactively understand their own academic metrics — whether that is CGPA, percentage, grade equivalency, or required marks — consistently make better decisions about course selection, study prioritisation, and application strategy. We built CGPA Calcs to put these calculations in every student’s hands, free and without complexity. Use the tools, understand the numbers, and let the data inform your academic plan.
